After vetting many applicants and after lots of preparation, we have recently opened the second cycle of Bayit Cham’s “Handyman” program in Ashdod!
Now in its second year, this program serves men aged 18 and above who due to mental health disability are entitled to government funded rehabilitative vocational training. Participants are taught a variety of home and institutional maintenance professions. The professional staff provides individual and group support as well as placement services, helping graduates land jobs in the mainstream workplace upon successful completion of the program.
This year we’ve grown and now have 20 (!) participants in the program. One of them shared that he was so excited, he couldn’t sleep the entire night before the inauguration ceremony… ❤
Many people joined the festive celebration that included a beautiful, rich spread of delicacies. We were honored with the presence of Bayit Cham Director Rabbi Arie Munk who greeted the audience with the above quote from Rabbi Kook’s poem; Rehabilitation Director Ms. Gitit Cohen; Rehabilitation Benefits Coordinator Ms. Rinat Ram; National Insurance Institute Representative Ms. Ruth Halperin; and Director of the Haredi Vocational Training Center Mr. Meir Margalit who helps us a great deal with this program and deserves a big thank you!
In addition, other rehabilitation officials attended included the Southern Regional Director and the project’s professional staff, program participants and their families. Everyone expressed their amazement at the program’s beautiful, spacious new facility and shared their excitement about the opportunities that this program opens up for all participants.
We wish everyone the best of luck!
