Rami was born into a neglectful environment – a dysfunctional home, mentally unstable parents and abject poverty. As Rami – a delicate and sensitive child – grew, his emotional scars deepened apace. He eventually gave up on trying to cope; he spent day after day lying in bed and staring into space.
A good and caring neighbor empathized with 18-year-old Rami’s pain and encouraged him to turn to Bayit Cham for evaluation and treatment. Rami was diagnosed with severe depression. Medication and therapy improved his condition somewhat and a glimmer of hope pierced the gloom in his heart – perhaps, despite it all, my life is worth something?! Bayit Cham’s professional staff fanned Rami’s emergent desire to recover and urged him to join the supported employment program; there he could find emotional satisfaction through useful employment in the community.
Rami underwent career assessment at Bayit Cham’s vocational rehabilitation department. The staff was amazed to discover Rami’s highly impressive artistic skills – real talent that required investment and development to fulfill its great potential and thereby provide Rami with the means to find creative joy and satisfaction while earning a decent living. He took a graphics design course in a leading college, with Bayit Cham undertaking to raise the necessary funds to cover his tuition.
Rami began a whole new life! He found artistic expression for his feelings and his soul soared, unfettered, to the heights. After completing the course with great distinction (see his final project!), he moved on to an advanced course. Here too, Bayit Cham took care of raising the funds for his tuition enabling warm-hearted, good people to share in the happy turnabout of Rami’s life. One contributor went even further – he offered to purchase the final project art piece!
