“I stand ready to be recruited for any task that you assign me. I am sure that with your constant activity, we will be able to help you so that you can help more people,” said MK Yinon Azulai of the Shas party after a lengthy tour of the Bayit Cham complex in Modi’in Illit.
During the visit, MK Azulai met with Bayit Cham’s director Rabbi Arie Munk and with the directors of the various departments and divisions. Rabbi Munk presented to the MK the variety of activities carried out at Bayit Cham and spoke of the thousands of cases that are being treated throughout the year in clinics and centers throughout the country.
Others in attendance at the meeting included Yehuda Scheinhut, manager of the director’s office; Menachem Berkowitz, the clinics’ administrative director; Avreimy Friedman, director of supported employment in the Bnei Brak region as well as director of the Central Helpline; Avi Kannai, clinical psychologist and the clinics’ professional director; Yoel Helfgott, social worker and director of supported employment in the southern region; and Inbal Tivon, social worker and director of the Benafsheinu Post-Trauma Treatment Centers in the periphery.
During the visit, the “Benafsheinu” program was presented: post-trauma multidisciplinary treatment centers that provide unique culturally sensitive treatment for adult survivors of sexual trauma in the religious sector.
The Benafsheinu Centers were established by Bayit Cham six years ago and operates branches in Bnei Brak, Elad and Modi’in Illit. The centers’ staff consists of psychiatrists and clinical social workers who specialize in the treatment of sexual trauma. Benafsheinu also serves as a public awareness and professional training center in its field.
The activity of Bayit Cham’s professional Mental Health Helpline was also presented. The special *9518 helpline is active every day from 8 am to 12 am, during which responders handle calls with utmost discretion.
MK Yinon Azulai was duly impressed and expressed his great admiration: “I have known about Bayit Cham for years, but I was so moved to see your work first hand and learn of the extent of your activities. I would be happy to be a partner in all of the your vast good works.” He also requested that Bayit Cham consider undertaking projects for the benefit of at-risk youth – an issue that is close to his heart.
