Last Thursday, a very moving graduation ceremony took place: the third graduating class to complete the rehabilitative vocational training program at Bayit Cham’s Reishit Center.
Program participants, young women dealing with mental health challenges, completed an entire year’s training in which they gained knowledge, skills and experience, preparing them for the mainstream work world. During the year, participants took essential courses such as managing office systems and computers, improving communication and interpersonal skills necessary in the work world, positive psychology and more. In addition, they participated in self-management work groups and gained actual job experience trying out at various types of employment in medical clinics, day care centers, shops, well-baby clinics and more.
Most importantly, participants went through a process of personal growth in which they discovered what they liked, wanted and aspired to do, created personal and career identities empowered by their own and the group’s inner strengths as they now stand equipped and ready to go out and may their way at jobs in the big wide world.
At the party, emceed by the graduates themselves, guests and program partners spoke: representatives of the Ministry of Health’s rehab department, Bituach Leumi, Bayit Cham’s director and more. But the most exciting parts were when the graduates themselves courageously shared their personal stories which brought them enthusiastic applause and great admiration.
In addition, all program participants prepared a performance reflecting their personal journey and what the Reishit center symbolizes for them. Apart from discovering the graduates’ tremendous talents, all present were injected with a shot of motivation and deep insight that when one has a supportive, accepting and enabling environment, any and all obstacles can be overcome – the sky’s the limit…
