Last week, a festive ceremony took place marking the inauguration of Bayit Cham’s innovative “Duo-Fun” initiative: tandem bicycling that pairs experienced cyclers and beginners with various types of disabilities once a week for two hours.
The opening ceremony was held at the Yarkon Park in the Ramat Hachayal neighborhood of Tel Aviv. The ceremony was honored by the presence of Rabbi Arie Munk, Director of Bayit Cham; Rabbi Menachem Berkowitz, Administrative Director of Bayit Cham Clinics; Ms. Gitit Cohen, Director of the Vocational Rehabilitation Department and other Bayit Cham administrative members, as well as representatives from Bnai Brak’s municipal welfare department: Ms. Rachel Schwimmer Community Projects Coordinator, Rabbi Nachum Ornbach, Director of Independent Life Center, and Ms. Bilha Sitbon, Rehabilitation Coordinator in the area of autism.
At the moving event, Rabbi Munk opened with congratulatory remarks to the cyclers and volunteers on their joint sports venture, stressing the great importance of physical activity that improves well-being and uplifts the mood… He concluded with thanks to the partners who enabled the initiative’s successful launch: Israel’s Ministry of Welfare, the Bnei Brak Municipality, the Etgarim/Challenge Association that is providing the necessary equipment, and, of course, the Bayit Cham staff.
Ms. Odelia Denan, Project Director on behalf of Bayit Cham, expressed her huge appreciation to the volunteers, emotionally welcomed them and sent them on their way with a hearty “bon voyage!”
Then, with a deep sense of satisfaction that comes with involvement in meaningful activity, the cyclists set off on a shared experiential journey…
